FAQs

  • We think we’ve made a decent case for that across the About, Services, and Value pages. Ultimately it’s for you to decide if you think our philosophy and process resonate with you and match your expectations and needs.

  • We get compensated from the fees we charge you for services.

  • Of course! One of our foundational ideas is using virtual meetings via videoconferencing.

  • Nope. One of the foundational principles of Exian is no minimums.

  • Given enough time and effort, maybe. But a better question may be: do you want to? Like many other skills, the learning materials are out there, but proficiency potentially requires years of sifting through information and trying things that may or may not work.

  • We answered this in detail on the Value page here.

  • Of course! You’re free to cancel anytime if you feel you’re not getting value.

  • Definitely! We’re more familiar with the unique needs of Gen Y and Gen Z, but we can certainly help others as well.

  • Your investments are held on a trusted platform called Altruist, an SEC-registered broker-dealer. We do not have access to your money.

  • Yes. We take cybersecurity seriously, and we only use digital platforms with robust security protocols. Our firm also specifically has cybersecurity insurance.

  • Absolutely not. Fiduciary advisors are held to a strict confidentiality standard. Anything we talk about stays between us.

  • Exian Capital Advisors LLC is registered with the South Carolina Securities Division and with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). FINRA is an independent, nongovernmental organization that writes and enforces the rules governing Registered Investment Advisor firms in the United States. Its stated mission is "to safeguard the investing public against fraud and bad practices."

  • “Fee-only” means just what it sounds like - we only make money from the transparent fees we charge, not from commissions, referrals, kickbacks, or from selling you products or insurance plans. Also note that “fee-only” is not the same thing as “fee-based.” Make sure your advisor is fee-only.

  • “Fiduciary” means a requirement to always act in your best interest, even when it’s to the detriment of our own. Click here to read more about the term. Make sure your advisor is a fiduciary.

  • Investment management describes designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing an investment portfolio that matches one’s unique goals, time horizon, and need, capacity, and tolerance for risk. While that’s certainly no small feat, it’s still only one piece of the puzzle of financial planning, which is itself an ongoing, dynamic process. Other puzzle pieces in that process include things like tax optimization, cash flow analysis, debt repayment, and retirement planning, to name a few.

  • Our services are most beneficial for young and mid-career professionals interested in making a conscious effort toward improving their financial well-being.

  • Our services would not be a good fit for someone looking to make short-term trades of individual stocks, find the next Amazon, or get rich quickly from the stock market. We take a comprehensive, systematic, long-term approach.

  • This obviously depends on your personal financial circumstances and your level of comfort, desire, and expertise in optimizing them. Those who currently have no debt repayment plan, have no tax planning, aren’t properly utilizing retirement accounts, and/or have high-fee investments may save thousands of dollars within their first year. For others, it can take time to see the compounding effects of holistic financial planning and good saving habits. We broke down the details of the quantifiable value of financial advice as well as the intangibles - which we think are just as important - on our Value page here.

  • We show you how the financial process works and answer any initial questions you might have, you give us a general idea of where you’re at in your financial journey and what you want to accomplish or might need help with, and we assess mutual fit. No paperwork or expectations.

  • No. The free initial consultation is for us to get acquainted and see if we are a good mutual fit. There are no expectations of signing any contracts in this meeting, or even shortly thereafter. We know this is a big decision to invest - pun intended - in a long-term relationship that requires ample consideration time.

  • Contact us anyway! We can at least provide you with some resources and knowledge that should help.
